Mission 199: "The Forbidden Island"

Wyverncakes (02:12:41): It's been several days since the Chalice has caught word of the incident with the Sulphur Bottom.
Wyverncakes (02:13:55): And, if anyone had been paying attention, they would've known the ship has actually altered course to go after the Sulphur Bottom!
Wyverncakes (02:15:12): Off in the distance you can all see a swirling barrier of a brutal blizzard... one that has perpetually raged around the Forbidden Island for decades with no end in sight.
Meraxa (02:15:37): Richard has unfortunately been made to pay attention, thanks to his superiors. They had indications that an 'items of interest' might be on the island, and this rescue mission was a perfect excuse to send Richard to brave the blizzard and try and find whatever might be there in the name of the Empire.
Wyverncakes (02:15:52): And as for you all, you've actually been summoned to the Chalice's hangar, where Ayame's waiting for you all.
Wyverncakes (02:18:01): Ayame: "Alright then. There's no point in beating around the bush, but we were requested to try to see if there was any chance of finding and rescueing everyone who had been on the Suphur Bottom before the transmission was cut."
lionel boyd bokanon johnson (02:18:39): Nikolai salutes from inside his armor, though the faceplate is open. "Have we received any distress signals?"
Wyverncakes (02:19:03): Ayame shakes her head. "No. But that doesn't mean they're dead."
frifreeman (02:19:11): Roll: "I hope Granpa is alright."
frifreeman (02:19:25): Rock: "Don't worry Roll. Granpa Barrel survived the island once. I bet he can survive it again."
Wyverncakes (02:19:46): Ayame: "We'll be finding out soon enough."
tengusaur (02:20:19): Lily: "Maybe there's something in the island's air that blocks attempts at radio communication..."
Wyverncakes (02:20:23): "The Chalice is currently approaching the Island, and we're going to hopefully see about breaching it."

Wyverncakes (02:21:00): "Roll was kind enough to help our mechanics develop a number of insertion pod-like Drop Ships that can hopefully get you all in there."
griefgathering (02:21:29): Neptune: "Rescue missions aren't my speciality, but I'll give it my best shot!"
HyprKnux 1 (02:21:52): Gen: "Ah, don't worry, this'll be a cinch and we'll get 'em out!"
Meraxa (02:21:56): Richard: ...Sorry to be a bother, but I don't suppose she might have transport outside of those?
Wyverncakes (02:22:09): "We also have emergency beacons, food supplies, and enough fuel and winter clothing to hopefully keep you all alive."

tengusaur (02:22:36): Lily: "I participated in a few of those before. The only problem is that whatever shot down the Sulphur Bottom might still be around."
tengusaur (02:22:48): Lily: "But I'm sure we can take it on."
Meraxa (02:23:06): Richard: I... I need to be able to move on the island. My superiors want me to explore for something instead of take part in the rescue mission. Sorry.
Wyverncakes (02:23:09): Ayame: "That's the ideal."
Meraxa (02:23:21): Richard: Haven't been as useful lately anyway...
Wyverncakes (02:23:24): Ayame nods again with Richard's explanation.
Wyverncakes (02:23:49): "Hopefully Ideigi will be able to handle the blizzard."
frifreeman (02:24:11): Rock: "No problem, Richard. Splitting up might be for the best after all."
Wyverncakes (02:24:17): "We're almost in position though. It's time to get ready."
frifreeman (02:24:19): Roll: "Yes. The more part of the island we explore, the better."
lionel boyd bokanon johnson (02:24:26): "Ah, just like survival training as a cadet! I do not think finding the survivors will be the difficult part here."
Meraxa (02:24:33): Richard: ...Think your little ship could handle it actually?
Wyverncakes (02:24:43): And if you'll look to your side, you'll see several yellow and orange, cylindrical pods set up.

HyprKnux 1 (02:26:24): And Gen heads for the drop pod, curious. "Can't be too hard to figure out, right?"
griefgathering (02:26:24): Neptune rushes up to one of the pods instantly. "Whoa! We should get to use these more often!"
tengusaur (02:26:37): Lily: "Well, Richard... It will be rough. Not as rough as entering atmosphere, but you should still hold onto something, just in case!"
Wyverncakes (02:26:42): Ayame: "Fortunatley the onboard computers will help with that."
tengusaur (02:26:46): While explaining this, the robot girl enters one of the pods.
Wyverncakes (02:27:02): "When you land, try to stay together and be careful."
Meraxa (02:27:05): Richard: Right...
griefgathering (02:27:07): And the goddess has already hopped into one of the pods too.
frifreeman (02:27:12): Rock: "Let's go!"
Wyverncakes (02:27:15): "Only two people ever made it off that island alive."
HyprKnux 1 (02:27:33): And Gen hops in, strapping the Fourze Driver on and he sets himself up...
HyprKnux 1 (02:27:37): Gen: "Wait, what?!"
frifreeman (02:28:06): Rock: "Hahaha, don't think about it too much. Let's make history, shall we?"
lionel boyd bokanon johnson (02:28:07): "Then prepare for a bumpy ride and keep your limbs tucked close together. Whatever you do, do not vomit." He says as he closes the door behind him.
griefgathering (02:28:10): Neptune: "Oh chill. You were confident before."
Wyverncakes (02:28:16): At any rate!
Wyverncakes (02:28:40): You're all set up into your drop pods, and sure enough there's a reasonable stock of food, additional clothing, and other things just in case this happens to be a very long stay.
Wyverncakes (02:28:45): And with that, you're off!

Wyverncakes (02:30:05): You're rocked by extreme turbulence and winds, but thrusters in the Drop Ships ignite in response to help stabilize you, and more thrusters flare up afterwards as the pods detect you're about to land.

Wyverncakes (02:30:24): ... The doors of the pods slide open, and you come face to face with a brutal, frigid environment.
Wyverncakes (02:30:40): There's no "eye" as it were to this storm.
frifreeman (02:30:45): Rock: "This is worse than I thought!"
griefgathering (02:31:17): Neptune: "Brrr...I should've brought my hoodie along..."
HyprKnux 1 (02:31:21): It was a good thing Gen henshined on the way down. JEEZ, it's cold and it feels like he can feel it through the armor!
tengusaur (02:31:24): Lily stands in the pod door and looks around, not giving much care about the weather. Being a robot has its benefits.
Wyverncakes (02:31:27): A few moments later and you all suddenly hear Dan's voice pip up!
Wyverncakes (02:31:33): Dan: "Alright! We're in!"
tengusaur (02:31:38): Lily: "It might be a little cold. Be careful... Oh, you can still hear us here?"
Wyverncakes (02:31:51): "We're using the Drop Pods as a focus point, that way we can get a lay of the land!"
Meraxa (02:32:12): Richard: So the further out, the less in contact we'll be...
Wyverncakes (02:32:13): "Like firing a flare into a deep, dark cave so you can see what's going on, rather than just holding a candle right inf ront of you."
cubey@aol.pl (02:32:19): The monolithic silhouette of Nu Wa walks out of the pod stoically, its pilot similarly unphased, looking around to get an idea about the surrounding area.
Wyverncakes (02:32:36): "Buuuuut..." Dan suddenly begins to sound extremely curious and at the same time confused.
lionel boyd bokanon johnson (02:32:37): Completely unperturbed, Nikolai was munching on Thingamajibobtm when his pod opened. He closed the faceplate, annoyed at the end of his snacking. "Succesful landing. Good thinking, Dan."
Wyverncakes (02:33:27): "I'm detecting a really strong energy source to the west a ways."
tengusaur (02:33:42): Lily: "Could it be the Sulphur Bottom?"
Wyverncakes (02:34:01): Dan: "That's what I'm thinking. I mean, what else could it be?"
frifreeman (02:34:02): Rock: "Let's check it!"

Wyverncakes (02:34:50): Lily, you're gonna find that flying's a bit challenging with the cold and the winds, but fortunately you're an awesome robot and not being impeded by it

Meraxa (02:35:10): Richard: Guess I'm stuck headed somewhere else then... *Richard grumbles to himself, double checking everything before slowly making his path away from the group*

lionel boyd bokanon johnson (02:35:18): Nikolai: "Approach with caution. It could be an ambush." He begins heading that way as well. He can't fly but the myomer in his armor takes him pretty quickly.
frifreeman (02:35:31): Roll:"I'll be staying here to take care of our drop pods"
Meraxa (02:35:41): Richard: I'll last for now... too cold, I can use Ideigi a bit maybe...
griefgathering (02:35:44): Neptune: "I'm actually doing pretty bad, but it isn't the cold!"

Wyverncakes (02:36:25): You trek across the icy island bit by bit, and at least the storm isn't worsening. It's not getting any better though.

Wyverncakes (02:44:24): ... You'll notice that during all of the fighting that a whole slew of parka-clad figures have surrounded you and are shambling forwards.

lionel boyd bokanon johnson (02:45:40): "I suggest we fall back and counterencircle before that happens, quiaff?" Nikolai says, moving backwards himself.
Wyverncakes (02:46:13): And then, Devon, one of the figures coming from the front suddenly lunges forward, its parka shredding open to reveal...
tengusaur (02:46:29): Lily: "That won't be necessary."
Wyverncakes (02:46:34): A Reaverbot!
frifreeman (02:46:57): Rock: "Gah!"
Wyverncakes (02:46:59): The creature begins to strike at you with its claws, which are moving awfully quickly and with a lot of strength behind them, in spite of its size!

cubey@aol.pl (02:48:26): *Nu Wa blocks with its massive arm-mounted shields, trying to limit the Reaverbot's moves with their size and mass. But Devon does not stop on that, firing the chest-mounted chainguns as well in counterattack!+

tengusaur (02:48:59): Lily: "Mr Dan! Can you hear me? Is there any similarity between these robots and the ones that attacked Sulphur Bottom?"

frifreeman (02:50:49): Rock: "They're reaverbots! Robots that guard ancient ruins we often found! So the forbidden island is one of their domain too!"

Wyverncakes (03:10:21): [Devon] And the Reaverbot's arms arms bash and smash into your shields, but there's only so much it can do against you... especially before it gets gunned down!
Wyverncakes (03:11:12): However, you can see all around you that the other people around you have shed their overcoats as well, revealing countless more Reaverbots... some like you saw before, others like dogs, and a few others looking like rabbits.
Wyverncakes (03:11:20): All of them looking mighty hostile for that matter

HyprKnux 1 (03:11:46): Gen: "Robots. Well, then, let's not hold back!"
griefgathering (03:11:46): Neptune summons her katana. It's still in its scabbard for now. "No choice then! C'mon!"

frifreeman (03:11:48): Rock: "Do I want to visit your home..."

frifreeman (03:13:30): Rock unfolds his left arm into a canon and fires it toward the middle of the reaverbot crowds. The shot explodes and spreads a flak-like explosions toward the area.+
tengusaur (03:13:33): * Lily takes off to the skies and flies around the rabbit robots, peppering them from above with rapid-fire blue lasers fired from two of her Psiguns! She uses the rest of them as wings. +

Wyverncakes (03:15:19): [Rock] The Facelike Reaverbots re hit hard by your buster shots, with two of them obliterated and a third losing half of it's body!
tengusaur (03:15:36): Lily: (What did humans say to that? Oh yeah...) "Bless you."
Wyverncakes (03:15:56): (Scratch Richard, actually. He's off doing other stuff and I forgot)
Wyverncakes (03:16:31): [Lily] Unfortunately, those rabbits are also extremely nimble and only one of them gets hit by your psiguns. At least they're fairly fragile... but also able to jump very high up, with one hurtling straight towards you!

Wyverncakes (03:17:30): [Nikolai] And that burst... is going to not hit anywhere near the wolf as it suddenly skirts to the side and charges. HOLY FUCK, the rabbits were moving fast enough, but this is on an entirely different level as it bares its teeth at you and moves in for the kill!

tengusaur (03:18:06): * "Quick!" Lily does a massive drop towards the ground, simultaneously backing off away from the attack and activating her wings again just a second later to take off towards the skies again! It's the Cosmic Ark way of dodging. +
griefgathering (03:18:08): Neptune: "Sorry about this, bunny!" *Here comes a simple flying kick to knock that bunny off its trajectory!+

lionel boyd bokanon johnson (03:18:48): Nikolai: He might be getting old but he's not too old for this. He fires his jumpjets backwards, and from the air, lets loose a single SRM. He wants the critter trying to avoid that...
cubey@aol.pl (03:19:17): *A giant mobile suit-sized shield falls to the ground in front of Nikolai. I mean it literally - it is disattached from Nu Wa and drops to the ground. And then falls down like a cut down tree, in the wolf's direction.+
Wyverncakes (03:19:43): [Lily and Neptune] It's practically something out of Hokuto no Ken as Lily evades and Neptune moves in with the intercept... but the bunny can't handle the awesome (or the surprise kick) and gets blown apart.

cubey@aol.pl (03:20:24): *As for Devon herself, she has no patience for hostile robots. "Don't waste my time." Set for maximum spread, she fires all beam guns simultaneously, evaporating snow from air and ground alike. Well, hopefully more than just snow.+
Wyverncakes (03:21:08): [Nikolai and Devon] The shield does begin to fall towards the wolf, but its response is to just spring into the air and rebound off of it, actually causing it to be knocked the other way, where it lands with a resounding thud. It also kept Nikolai's shots from actually connecting though, and the wolf's just growling angrily now.

griefgathering (03:23:22): Neptune: "Yosh! Next!" *The CPU lands from her kick, sprints across the icy ground and draws her sword at the same time - "Chesto-!!" and she takes a quick leap, coming down on the closest wolf with an overhead slash!+
Wyverncakes (03:23:49): [Devon] And there's certainly something to be said about MAP attacks, with the Nu Wa's dakka blowing apart the remaining face Reaverbots with no trouble whatsoever, along with five of the Rabbits! The two dogs continue to show case their nimble evasive prowess though, with the one from before springing into the air and biting down on the machine's arm to try to tear it off! Aaaand... it's actually making a headway on that.

Wyverncakes (03:24:32): [Neptune] Meanwhile, the other wolf turns its head to intecept that sword, and it manages to catch it in its jaws... albeit just barely! The thing's growling ferociously as it then tries to spring forward and overpower you!

cubey@aol.pl (03:25:47): *These wolves are strong... but while one is biting, it means it cannot dodge. Devon jumps out from Nu Wa's cockpit as the hatch rapidly opens - in her armor, of course! She spins wildly through the air, then... crash! A wild kick right into the wolf's head.+
Wyverncakes (03:25:48): And in their place, you can see that many of the "hills" surrounding you had been something else entirely: crash sites.
Wyverncakes (03:26:21): Dozens upon dozens of crashed airships belonging to the Federation, Britannia, superpowers destroyed by Third Impact...
HyprKnux 1 (03:26:28): Gen: "Hang on!" *With that, Gen launches himself into the air, quickly activating the Drill Module and activating it on the way down and through the side of the wolf Reaverbot. "RIDER DRILL KIIIIIIIIIIIICK!"+

Wyverncakes (03:27:42): [Devon] The wolf never sees it coming. With your machine's arm nearly torn off, it doesn't realize it's about to die until microseconds before its head is smashed in. THat's one down!
Wyverncakes (03:28:28): [Neptune and Gen] And it's a bit of a challenge to keep the wolf in place... but nevertheless Gen's kick smashes it to bits as well! Whoo!

You do manage to blow a hole through the creature's top, but that isn't enough to bring it down!

frifreeman (04:43:33): Rock:"Ugh, I can't wait for you to collect yourself!" Rock's powered armor left arm turns into a drill. Ignoring his own defense, Rock jumps toward kygunei, clings to its body, and attempts to drill the chestplate away.+

lionel boyd bokanon johnson (04:45:22): Nikolai: As the robot goes down, he backpedals too, using his laser to try to slice through the chunks that come down towards him. If it gets too close for that, he'll try to punch through it. That myomer musculature should come in handy here.
Wyverncakes (04:45:53): [Rock] You jump onto Kygunei's massive form, your drill starting to work into the machine's body... but he's not going to let that just happen! "Eight Blade!" And the Naginata changes again, becoming more spearlike almost as the blast then emits a spiraling energy beam that zeroes in on you!

All four Heavenly Wall segments fire their payload - missiles, and beam cannons alike, all aimed at the blade-wielding arm of the Japanese-looking robot! "It ends now!" After the dust settles, Devon herself follows on the attack, leaping at the most damaged part of the arm and punching it with full might - her fist covered with spikes of Sophium crystal, that cause the thick armor to crystallize and shatter on hit.+

"And you thought..." The naginata's still intact! And he still has his other arm, which grabs the blade of the Naginata before smacking it into your form! "-That the loss of just one arm would defeat me?"

But you still cut its face up a bit before... and that chink in its defenses grows larger with each strike you landed near that area... and soon enough it finally falls apart!

HyprKnux 1 (04:56:33): With the blast gone now, Gen can focus on other matters... like the fact that he's still near the chest. Shield is replaced with the Nigo switch and activated! "Try this! RIDER PUUUUUUUUUUNCH!" *And he throws a powerful punch at the machine's chest+

Wyverncakes (04:58:57): [Gen] And you do manage to blow a hole through Kygunei's chest, exposing Roll once more! But the other end of the machine's selectively-bendy weapon moves to swat you away afterwards, keeping you from finishing the rescuing!
