SRWUG@ Applications

Application Rules
  • Before you can post or comment with a character in either comm, you must apply and be accepted here.
  • Each player is be limited to 6 characters. However, provided a player has six characters and maintained good activity for all of them, they may request a seventh slot. In the event they drop a character though, they will have to request the seventh slot again. More details on the seventh slot can be found here.
  • Furthermore, after introducing a new canon to the RP, each player will have to wait at least one full activity cycle before they may do so again.
  • When posting an app, please put the character name and whether the character was reserved in the comment subject
  • You may not app characters who are Reserved, Taken or serve a primarily antagonistic role without working something out with the mods first - please read those two entries first, along with the FAQ if you're new.
  • The template is below, note that depending on what kind of character you are apping you may be able to ignore some portions of the template.
  • You must fill out all sections marked REQUIRED; other sections are optional or may not be relevant to your character.
  • Please note that the Unit/Flagship sections are required if you want to have one, and should be written in your own words. Supplemental links to wikis or MAHQ are fine, but only as supplements; we need to know you can play your unit in combat just like we need to know you can play your character in RP.
  • Before writing the app, it is extremely important that you familiarize yourself with the world of UG@ and read the wiki. The world is not a blank slate for you to work with; it is a specific post-apocalyptic setting with a large amount of predetermined backstory and as a result, there are some things which simply will not be found in it
  • If you want to app an OC (original character), please view the section below the app template.
  • Any character for which canon review would be difficult and/or require a large amount of money (such as video games and untranslated works, fan translations are usually okay) requires a full write up, using the rules outlined for Original Characters below.
  • For notes on each specific section click here.
  • Due to UG@ entering endgame, limitations on applying new canons come into effect. These affect only already-established players who have characters in the game, not new players. Details are here.

The Application (Copy and paste this, then fill it out.)

Original Characters
  • The most important thing to remember when designing your original character: your OC can't do everything. As well, be reasonable with your character's powers: the "power level" here is pretty high, but try to be self-consistent at least.
  • Your original character must be detailed enough that we can run a game with them, and show us that you have put enough thought into the character that you know them as well as you would know any other character that someone else made up. While we don't necessarily expect you to not make up anything on the fly while RPing your OC, we do need them to have enough definition in the first place that they don't become your personal "whatever is convenient at the time" spouting device.
  • The above also means we reserve the right to ask for longer or more detailed Personality and/or Background section, simply to make sure we have a full idea of the character without canon review to fall back on.
  • The mech/battleship and capabilities/resources sections are just as, if not more, important than background and personality, if they're applicable to your character. Also, a physical description of its appearance is highly encouraged.
  • If your OC is written using plot devices from another canon, please make sure you ask the player's playing from those canons first. Some things are assumed to be part of the setting as opposed to any particular canon, so being a Coordinator, Newtype, Psychodriver or what not is generally okay so long as you aren't a super special example. Anything more specific, such as being a member of such and such organization or having been at a historical event definitely needs permission.
  • You need an event list if you want events, and your event list needs to be a little more detailed than for a canon character for the same reasons as personality and background.
  • The sample post section may take several forms for non-OCs, but for original characters we ask for a post on [community profile] testrun_box. This is to ensure you have a good grip on your character's personality and how to roleplay them.

Hua Cheng Kwan

[identity profile] vjockey.livejournal.com 2011-07-01 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Jockey (Or Jock, Jockstrap, V. Whichever you feel is more hilarious/appropriate)
Personal LJ: Vjockey (made one just for this)
AIM Contact: VJockey
Character Name: Hua Cheng Kwan
Source Canon: Ironlock (OC)
Community Tag: "hua cheng kwan"

Notes: N/A

Background: Another son in the distinguished line of a military family, he was named Hua Cheng – the meaning of the name being Magnificent Accomplishment. It was an amusing irony given the fact that his preference was to support others rather than to take the lead and limelight. As all males born to his family he joined the state’s military academy and was perhaps one of the most average students to grace their halls, going slightly above his usual norm in tactics and team based activities – if only because he felt that others were depending on him.

With the advent of Combat-Frame technology there was a great demand for pilots in the state, and given the fact that it was a great demand Cheng was in no place to argue. While others made names for themselves with daring tactics and manuevers, Cheng made his own by being the one that stayed behind to provide support fire and doing his best to provide for his teammates. However as time passed the state had collapsed in on itself, torn by the corruption within its inner workings, the struggles of those who held power as well as the riots caused by the constant pressure the government put on its people to continue to keep itself alive in the brutal free-for-all that blazed across the world.

With his brothers-in-arms at each other’s throats and his family dead and gone for supporting the wrong person Cheng left the corpse of his homeland behind, working as a guard for a smattering of civilians and suffering a lack of direction and an immense sense of loss. He lost his country, his family, his friends and comrades as well as his reason for fighting. It was no wonder he joined up with the crew with how desperate he was to find a purpose.

Personality: Cheng is as calm and friendly as any other person, what sets him apart is that he is easily embarrassed by praise and is modest to the point of constantly depreciating himself. It is the way that he was schooled and taught, he sees himself more a gear in a greater machine. That being said he has something of a follower’s mentality, rarely taking initiative in any place that is not the battlefield.

He is not the most social of people, prior to the collapse of his home he limited his contact to his family, his squad-mates and the mechanics that worked with his unit. That being said however he is also tenaciously loyal, willing to take hits, sacrifice personal dignity and glory as well as charge in headlong into certain death to the rare few he does connect with.

That being said, he takes the criticisms of his teammates often far more harshly than they were intended to be, more often than not feeling that all of the problems and difficulties in the team could be traced back to him. There will often be the odd occasion in which he crafts a convoluted scenario in which all the team’s ills from combat injuries to hangovers and stubbed toes can be traced to him and then proceeds to beg for forgiveness.

Capabilities and Resources: As mentioned before Cheng is by all means an average soldier, pilot and tactician. Hand-to-hand, weapons training, the standard fare one would expect. He is somewhat more observant than others though not to an amazing degree.

Robot Name: SCF-341 Behemoth
Robot Description: The Behemoth is a heavily armoured bipedal monster of a machine. It is not the most mobile of Combat Frames but what it lacks in that area it makes up for in durability and ranged firepower. The unit is equipped with thrusters that are built into its lower legs and rear torso – though these are merely meant to allow the Behemoth a way of traversing urban environments and mountainous areas rather than sustained flight.

The Behemoth’s major flaw aside from its lack of mobility is that many of the weapons that it uses require support units to reload and even then it would take time for that to happen, leaving it vulnerable. It goes without saying that its limited mobility does not do it wonders for close combat. That being said it is best used as a support unit rather than on its own.

Weapons:
X2 Rocket Pods (Shoulder Mounted) – Each pod is loaded with six unguided high explosive rockets

X2 SAF-31 Cannons (Back Mounted) – The Behemoth’s main weapon, the SAF-31 fire a high-calibre shell at a significantly long distance, though it can and has been outranged. The SAF-31 has a 6- round magazine.

X1 SAF-13X Assault Gun (Arm mounted - Right) – A large gatling gun that is designed to suppress with a hailstorm of rounds. The gun is fed from an ammo barrel mounted on the back of the Behemoth’s right shoulder and carries approximately 800 rounds.

X1 SAF-42 Shotgun (Hand carried – Left) – An automatic shotgun designed to shred anything that gets past the Behemoth’s other weapons. Effectiveness depends on enemy armor. Gun is fed from an ammo barrel mounted on the back of the Behemoth’s left shoulder that carries 350 rounds.

X1 SAF-03 Pistol (Backup Weapon) – For all intents and purposes a weapon that is only used when everything else is spent and seems somewhat insignificant compared to the other weapons on the Behemoth. Has a 12-round magazine with two spares mounted on the opposite hip.

Terrain Stats:
Land: B
Air: D
Sea: C
Space: C

Upgrades: The Behemoth has the option to exchange its standard loadout for one that allows more ease in low to zero gravity environments.

Supplementary Thruster Pack (Rear Torso) - Changes Space Terrain Stat to B

X4 Missile pods (Two attached to the shoulders, two on the lower legs) – Fires high speed missiles with moderately accurate guidance systems. Each pod is loaded with twelve missiles.

X1 Rocket pod (mounted on right forearm) – Pod is loaded with four unguided high explosive rockets.

X1 SAF-07 Autocannon (hand-carried) – Fires high calibre rounds at a reasonable speed with above-average accuracy. Has a 30-round magazine and six spares.

X1 SAF-05 Machinecannon (backup weapon) – A blocky rapidfire weapon designed for short to midrange combat. Has a 45-round magazine and two spares.

X1 SAF-02 Close Combat Weapon (mounted on left forearm) – Essentially a large chainsaw designed to chew through armor. Teeth require replacement after several uses.

Job: Pilot/Bodyguard/Errand Boy – Depends on the orders of his superiors. Whatever they ask, he'll try to do his best - for better or worse.

Suggested Event List:
-Old “Friends”- A few factionists that survived the collapse of the state want to finish what they started with Cheng’s family, despite whatever new ties they may have gained for themselves. They have a nasty tendency to pop up from time to time.

Sample Post :
*cuts down a target with a hailstorm of gunfire*
“This is Cheng, targets have been reduced to rubble. Ammunition reserves are still in the green. Requesting further orders”

*winces at a chastising remark, schooling his expression into one of acceptance though he was not fast enough to hide the pained look he had*
“Dui bu qi. I’ll...take what you have said to heart.” (Dui bu qi – I am sorry/Forgive me)

*after being asked if he was serious after a long and guilt filled rant about how every inconsequential if unfortunate event that happened during the day was his fault*
“Don’t patronise me...I KNOW it’s my fault”

*flares Behemoth’s thrusters, sending the machine into a forward leap*
“Get away from them gǒurìde!” (gouride – Son of a B****)

*salutes his superior officer*
“Whatever you ask of me. I’ll do what I can.”
