Event/Crossover planning
Apr. 14th, 2013 01:53 amThis post is for when you have suggestions on what events the game in general or any particular canons should have (same as the old mission suggestion post), but ALSO for suggesting and coordinating cross-over events and plots between various canons. For example, if you think your canon's villains would work best if they cooperate with another canon's villains? Respond here, offering such an option, and see if any other player is interested!
In this post, discussion among players is both allowed and highly encouraged. If you need a mod to approve of something, feel free to ask.

Specific Application Section Notes
Apr. 1st, 2013 08:30 pmThe first six sections are all required information.
Notes: (OPTIONAL) Essentially anything that isn't covered anywhere else. It could include things like: Are you making any intentional changes to this character's personality/canon events? Why? Does your character spend a large amount of time away from the main group? Recommendations for crossover potential with other canons should also go here.
Background: (REQUIRED, canon characters may post a link). For a canon character, this is pretty much a synopsis of the character's canonical background, and may just be linked from Wikipedia or a fan wiki. For someone writing an Original Character app this needs to be set (or easily dropped into) the SRWUG@ world and it needs to be detailed. It needs to tell us everything we need to know about your character's back story: how they tie into the world at large; how they tie into their own canon events; anything else important to the back story of the canon which we might need to know, even stuff the character themselves doesn't know about it. You don't have to write a novel, please be as succinct as you can be. If you want to keep your character's back story mod only information, you may send this section of the app to the mod account and just put "Messaged" or something similar in the section of your posted app.
Personality: (REQUIRED for all characters) Even more so than the background, this needs to be detailed. You need to show us you know your character inside and out. You need us to be able to judge your knowledge of this character simply from the personality write up itself without any review of canon. Little details from what they like to do in their spare time to whether or not they are a morning person or whether they are afraid of spiders help a lot here. Feel free to use head canon, especially for characters who have a limited amount of information from their source canon. This entry cannot be linked. All applications must have this entry, and it should be at least 3-4 paragraphs.
Capabilities and Resources: (REQUIRED if you have any) This is where you put any skills or resources your character has aside of their giant robot, if any. Please note this area is optional and is only intended for things the character is good at beyond the average person or skills which could directly effect the game. You don't need to put that your character is capable of cooking a good meal or has used a computer here, but if your character is a master gourmet or has any hacking ability that should definitely go here. Superhuman powers, amazing skills, great wealth, membership in any organizations, things like that all go here. If you forget to put something down it isn't a big deal, just make sure you get stuff cleared by the Mods/Other Players before you do anything which will significantly effect the game (ie: don't godmode).
Robot/Flagship Description: (REQUIRED if you have one) Some characters have a robot, some have a warship, some have both or neither. For those that do have at least one, this is very important as it tells us what your robot can do as well as how well you know/have thought out how it works. You must list every weapon it has and a general description of how they work. We also need to know its general size, maneuvering capabilities, armor, to know that a) you can play the mech in a combat situation and b) what it does if we haven't seen the canon yet. You don't need to be super detailed here except with specialized things that are unique to the mecha or otherwise atypical in use or design. The specifics of what it looks like are a nice addition, but are not strictly necessary. This entry cannot be linked, although a link to a site like mahq.net can be a helpful overview. All applications for a character who intends to use a robot during missions must have this entry. Terrain stats are optional, but amusing.
If your character uses human-sized power armor or otherwise assumes a human-sized combat form (by transforming like a Kamen Rider for example), you should treat it like a robot and describe in the Robot Description section.
Upgrades: (OPTIONAL) Please post any upgrade robots/flagships the character gains below using the same templates with the word “Upgraded” tagged to the front. So “Upgraded Robot Name,” “Upgraded Robot Description,” etc.. If you don't want to do this immediately you don't have to, but you will have to send the upgrade's information to the mod account and have it be accepted before we can introduce your upgrade into the comm.
Job: (OPTIONAL) Any job you want your character to have aside from mecha pilot or ship captain goes here. Really, this isn't that important and can easily change in game. Its more here to give you a chance to expand your characters role in the game beyond shooting stuff.
Suggested Event List: (OPTIONAL) Any character who expects to add missions to the game must do this, whether they're the first character applied from their canon or they are a subsequent character who wants to add to the event list. Feel free to skip events if you want your character to come in at a canon point other than the beginning, or if you just don't care about a particular plot arc.
This is not an indepth treatise on exact details of each mission. It is a list of the events with a short description for each and preferably a list of relevant episodes/chapters for us to canon review when available. However, original characters need to be more specific, as there is no canon material for us to review. When describing events, focus on bits that are most important to you. For example, no need to describe all dialogue, but if you want particular lines to be used exactly, then write so in the app.
Note the difference between missions and logs. Missions are run on an AIM chat in realtime, and almost always include some sort of mecha-sized combat with enemy forces. Logs on the other hand are ran like normal posts on the community. They are slower and so their focus is on non-combat happenings or, sometimes, smaller and/or on-foot confrontations. When writing your mission list, point out which events are missions and which are logs.
This list of events is suggested and we may need to change it to suit the story. We will discuss how we want to integrate the canon if you choose to interview with us after you app, but please be aware that we may need to make changes to the events to facilitate the world an the other canons. If you want to keep your character's plot events mod only information, you may send this section of the app to the mod account and just put "Messaged" or something similar in the section of your posted app.
Sample Post: (REQUIRED) This is a place where you want quality over quantity. This isn't to say we are going to scrutinize your writing with a fine toothed comb, but we will ask you to revise it if there are glaring problems or if we don't think it's long enough. Regardless of the length this does need to have something which expresses your character's personality. This could be spoken, internal monologue or even action (not every character is talkative after all). Remember this is an example of the incarnation of the character you are apping to the game, so any changes to the personality from the original canon should be represented here. You may write in the app, or link to a post in a musebox or
testrun_box. Oh, and just like in the game comm, either prose or "journal-style" is acceptable. IMPORTANT NOTE: For OCs, please write a sample post on
testrun_box. This is so we know you have a good grip on how to roleplay your character and their personality.

Mar. 27th, 2013 09:51 pmDo not like something that happened in the game? Other player is being a troublemaker? Believe the mods handled some situation poorly? Do you have constructive criticism for the game in general? This is the post where you can write all your criticism, input, and concerns - it will be read and, if you so desire, mods will contact and talk the issues over as soon as possible.
Anonymous commenting is available, and all comments are screened. If you want the mods to contact you, make sure to leave behind some contact info if your comment is an anon one.
Players can have their own HMD posts, specific only to that particular player, or even just a single character. Player HMDs are not mandatory, but having one is encouraged.
